AVEDA’S VISION

Aveda was born in 1978 with the vision to provide hair and beauty professionals with botanical products that would be good for them, good for their clients and good for the Earth.

Committed to the use of organic ingredients Aveda considers the effects of their products not only on hair or skin but also on body, mind and wellbeing.

Their commitment to deliver high performance, botanically-based products that are kinder to the planet is good for all of us. Aveda’s products are formulated without parabens, phthalates and sodium lauryl sulfate.

Aveda’s development of its exclusive Babassu Betaine technology is part of its efforts to develop and use sustainable plant-based alternatives to replace the use of petrochemicals whenever possible.

Aveda suppliers employ an environmentally friendly extraction method using CO2, which leaves no toxic residues and works at a lower temperature—yielding highly potent botanical extracts.

AVEDA’S USE OF NATURALLY DERIVED INGREDIENTS

Believing that nature is the best beauty artist of all Aveda continually strive to increase their use of naturally derived ingredients whenever possible.

Their definition of naturally derived ingredients means those for which more than 50% of the molecule comes from a plant, non-petroleum mineral, water, or some other natural source and is certified organically grown.

Sourced from sustainable or renewable plant-based origins they must not negatively impact the ecosystems from which they are sourced.

AVEDA’S USE OF GREEN INGREDIENTS

Since 2000, Aveda has significantly increased their purchases of organic raw herbal ingredients and organic essential oils from 20%-25% of total tonnage to now more than 90% for both. The exact percentage varies slightly from year to year due to product mix and availability of certified ingredients.

They work hard to ensure ecological and cultural diversity by responsibly sourcing key ingredients from different habitats all over the world, and through fair compensation positively impact the people and economies from which those ingredients are sourced.

All of their essential oils are processed in an environmentally responsible manner through steam distillation, and the majority of their essential oils and raw herbal ingredients are certified organic.

Aveda has established Soil to BottleTM traceability for certain key ingredients, which allows them to progressively document and expand the source of these ingredients while promoting quality through its supply chain.

AVEDA AND ANIMALS

Aveda is a cruelty-free brand. They do not test on animals and never ask others to do so on their behalf. Aveda products are “people-tested.” Being a cruelty-free brand they strive to set an example for leadership and responsibility of caring, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world. Their commitment to caring for animals and wildlife reaches far and wide. In their words, they live and breathe it.
